For those employees, durability makes a huge difference when seeking to set up and run a mobile workforce, particularly in unusual, demanding, and turbulent environments. Rugged electronic gadgets are specifically engineered to withstand and endure some of the most extreme conditions and harsh environments in which normal devices would succumb as they are not designed to work in those conditions.

Rugged laptops are suitable for working from a vehicle. But when an individual requires both lightweight and ruggedized devices, which is also portable. A ruggedized tablet would serve them better with the same reliability and endurance and also providing the same functions that of a laptop and weighs lighter than a laptop. Military personnel would greatly benefit from such a device that works the same as that of a rugged computer with enhanced mobility.

The touchpad from Panasonic is a type of tablet model computer that was designed and developed by Panasonic as a variant of the Toughbook rugged computer series. Panasonic launched the touchpad series of computers in 2011.

Design of Toughpad

Panasonic Toughpad are more suited for operations in light field applications in industries such as constructions, the aviation sector, the public works sector, where the device would be exposed to harsh environments constantly, and the chances of failure would be significant.

The touchpads are also designed to meet the same standards as that of the Toughbook computers.

The touchpads are ruggedized tablets, and hence, they are more durable and reliable than normal tablets. These touchpads meet the MIL-STD-810G military standards and the IP65 rating for dust, debris, and water-resistant protection.

Toughpads are engineered to withstand hard drops, shocks, and vibrations and work flawlessly in extreme environments involving intense heat, in bright sunlight, even in heavy rains and freezing cold temperatures.

The touchpads arrive in various screen sizes from 5 inches to 20 inches models. The touchpad display screens are hardened chemically, and it is directly bonded to the display board, which is how it is able to provide protection from the vibrations, drops, and other conditions it is exposed to, and at the same time, the matte screen improves the visibility of the display in sunlight and rain.

The internal frame of the touchpad device is made of magnesium, which is durable, and lightweight acts as a strong skeleton to safeguard the inner parts and the circuit boards from the impacts of the drops and shocks it is being exposed to.

Rugged tablets like touchpads offer a single device, all-in-one computer which can operate seamlessly and becomes handy for the person who is on a constant move and works in harsh environments

Use of Toughpad

Ultimately, as the use of mobile devices by customers grows, so does the expectation of businesses and field industries to offer high-speed data and service with operational security. For today’s workers, the larger format portable computers / rugged tablets are intuitive, easy to adapt to an environment where chances of them normal gadgets getting damaged are pretty significant, and an excellent way to enhance customer support, internal processes, and precision within the business.

Extreme, Solid, and Powerful!  The PANASONIC TOUGHPAD FZ G1 is a Windows 8 Pro tablet invented for extreme conditions like high and low temperatures,  dusty and damp environments, and as well as high drops. Since 1996 Panasonic has done fabulous jobs in this sector and provides some amazing Toughpads. All of the products introduced by Panasonic was durable as they were dustproof. Waterproof, drop-proof, and shock-proof also.

Features of the tablet

The PANASONIC  TOUGHPAD FZ G1 is above all.

  • Design & Build Quality

The Panasonic Toughbook FZ-G1 isn’t coming to win any beauty contests neither it is interested in entering them. The 10.1-inch big and high-resolution screen is surrounded by a thick silver bezel, by doing this they made it more appealing in looks. It is also wrapped up in a thinner, rubbery edge to grip and absorb the impact if it accidentally drops. The screen is also set slightly within the frame to protect it from the drop too.

They made its design a million times better than other sleek curves of other tablets. It is satisfyingly bulky. It is 1.1kg but its thick appearance feels lighter than it looks. 0.8inch of thickness feels more like a laptop than a tablet. In spite of having a heavier appearance, it is only slightly heavier than an 11inch MacBook Air. So we can definitely say Panasonic has done a great job designing it.

Where other companies are doing their best to hide the ugly machines for a smooth aesthetic, Panasonic on the other hand likes to show off its bolts and nuts like a badge of honor. There are 27 exposed screws on the shiny and metallic backplate which suit its rough and tough aesthetic gracefully.

The most uncommon thing is, it’s waterproof face buttons. While other devices like to keep their most of the functions on the screen, the PANASONIC TOUGHBOOK FZ-G1 has seven circular buttons below it. Counting from the left to right they have their default functions like A1(Panasonic dashboard),  A2(Touch keyboard),  Volume down, Volume up, Windows start, Screen Rotate on/off and last but not the least Power on button.

  • Display

It has 10.1 inch LED backlit IPS HD display with native 1920×1200 resolution. It also supports 10points touch functionality. The best part about the display is, it has a glove mode. So you can use it wearing gloves as well.

  • Speakers

It has a single speaker on the backside. And trust me it is loud.  The speaker is also dust proof, liquid proof and indestructible.

  • Inputs & Ports

The normal traditional ports are a single USB 3.0 port, HDMI output and a combo headphone/mic 1/8inch jack. Behind it there is also a solid port cover to protect it.

  • Camera

It comes with a 8MP camera with an LED flash in back. It is more of a tablet-based camera.

  • Battery

There are two batteries available for this tablet.

1. The stock battery – 4400mAh,

2. The extended life battery- 9300 mAh

Final Thoughts,

The Panasonic Toughpads FG-Z1 is an excellent tablet with extraordinary performance. Those who want to invest in a tough quality,  high configuration,  all day battery and an extreme tablet then it is absolutely perfect for them.

MIL-STD-810G is a U.S. military extensive test and durability standard. This is the latest version. MIL-STD-810G is a document with over 800 pages detailing how the equipment can withstand various environmental durability tests, including 4-foot drops, shocks, vibrations, and rain. The stylus is very sensitive in testing, and when you move about 1 cm on the screen, you will see reflective dots on the screen. In testing, the pen’s accuracy seemed to be affected by the angle held when orienting the screen.

The pen doesn’t affect left-handed people, and right-handed people can flip the toughpad over if it’s annoying.

Speakers

The Panasonic toughpads fz g1 has one speaker on the back of the device, loud enough to hear beeps to confirm button clicks in a custom app. From a musical point of view, say “thank you” for headphones and Bluetooth. Camera

In the graphics arena, Panasonic once again proves that this is a dedicated business device. There is no option to upgrade the GPU from anything other than Intel’s integrated unit. Mechanical hard drives are a common bottleneck for lowering the device’s benchmark score.
